2022 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid Owners Manual
Great car, terrible writing
For an explanation of what I'm doing here, see my review of the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid Owner's Manual. The short of it is, all these SUV manufacturers have been copying each other for decades, so whatever one does, the other also does. They are feature-for-feature almost identical. For instance, it turns out that the Rear Seat Reminder function that so impressed me in the Tucson is also there in the RAV4. If you care how your car looks (I don't), there are differences.
For me the big difference is that Toyota has the longest record in the industry of safe, reliable hybrid power trains. Their standard warranty doesn't offer the eight-year power train coverage the Hyundai does. However, as I pointed out in my review, Hyundai needs to do this only because they don't have a track record. Toyota does -- everyone knows they make the most reliable cars on Earth -- so an eight-year power train warranty would be pointless.
As I wrote previously, I am rating the car here, not the manual. That said, however, the Toyota manual is a miracle of tedium. It reminded of nothing so much as software API (Application Programmer's Interface) documentation, which is the most boring literary genre on Earth. Half of the Toyota Manual is warnings not to be stupid. Of course, these warnings are not intended to enhance safety. No one who needs the warning is gonna read the manual. They are lawsuit prevention devices. If someone throws a lighted cigarette into the open gas tank, they can, if sued, point to the warning in the manual and say, "We told you not to do that! Your problem!"
So, this, I think, is the new car I'm going to buy.
