The Navigator

The Wendy ascending
Wendy Darling, as we know from the first novel of Erin Michelle Sky and Steven Brown's trilogy Tales of the Wendy is an orphan girl who dreamed of becoming the captain of a ship. She isn't there yet, but she's on her way. Captain Hook (who is mostly a good guy, even a hero, in Tales of the Wendy) doesn't trust her, and he certainly doesn't approve of her ideas about female officers in the Royal Navy. However, Hook desperately wants to track down Peter Pan, whom he sees as an Enemy of England, and Wendy has become possessed of a compass that can point a ship to the Never Land, where Peter lives. What's more, this compass only works when Wendy holds it in her hand. Hook is therefore forced to take Wendy on as the Navigator for his ship.
This is Wendy's chance to prove herself to Hook. Hook, despite his prejudices against women, is somewhat fair-minded. He thinks he already knows everything he needs to know about the flightiness and unreliability of the female of the species. But Wendy hopes that if she shows him her abilities to his face, he will accept the evidence.
I enjoyed this, Wendy is strong-minded and smart.
